Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I want to plug my Chronomite Tankless Water Heater into a wall outlet. Where is the plug?

Chronomite Tankless Water Heaters are U.L. listed. The U.L. listing requires that the heater be "hardwired" to a dedicated breaker. To gain optimum performance and to keep the product under warranty, it must be installed in this manner. Please refer to our Installation and Operation sheet for the model you are installing.

Current models with a plug:

Can I install my Chronomite Tankless Water Heater in a vertical position?

Chronomite Tankless Water Heaters are designed for a horizontal installation. When installed properly, the heater will have the inlet and outlet on the right side of the unit when you are facing it. If installed in a vertical position, you will risk a burn out of the heating coils and the heater will not be covered under the warranty. Please refer to our Installation and Operation sheet for the model you are installing.

Why is my Chronomite Tankless Water Heater tripping the breaker?

Confirm that the heater has been hardwired to a dedicated, non-GFI breaker. Also check that the breaker size is appropriate for the heater being installed (Example: if it is a 30 amp heater, it will need a 30 amp breaker). Please refer to our Installation and Operation sheet for the model you are installing.

Also check that the breaker size is appropriate for the water heater and the electric wire gauge being installed.

Are Chronomite Tankless Water Heaters ASSE 1070 certified?

ASSE 1070 is a mixing valve code relating to water temperature limiting devices, and is designed to limit incoming high hot water supply temperature (120°F - 180°F) to normal, tempered water temperatures (105°F - 110°F) in order to minimize the risk of scalding to the end user.

The ASSE standard is specific for water temperature limiting devices, and not for water heaters alone. The various test procedures of this standard require that the device must have a hot water inlet, a cold water inlet and a mixed water outlet.

Chronomite offers the M-MM Series which has an integral mixing valve and is certified for ASSE 1070.  The AP-12 valve assembly consists of IAPMO certified mixing valve, appropriate piping and fittings. Reference IAPMO R & T certificate #7257
