If you are considering switching over to a tankless water heater (sometimes referred to as instant water heater) in your home, you probably have a few questions. You’ve probably been searching the Internet looking for answers. We’ve taken a look through much of the advice ourselves and found a very common misperception.
Misperception: Tankless water heaters haven’t been around very long. Therefore, there’s no way to know how long they will last.
Contrary to popular belief, tankless water heaters are not all that new. While tankless water heaters have only recently gained popularity in the United States for residential use, they’ve been widely used in other countries for decades.
Even here in the United States they’ve been fairly popular for commercial applications for many years. In fact, Chronomite has been in business going on 50 years now, so we have a very good sense for how long our tankless water heaters last. Many of our tankless heaters installed over ten years ago for commercial use are still going strong today.
Chronomite tankless heaters require no maintenance. They offer an advantage over heaters that require regular maintenance; heaters with filters, or tank heaters that require periodic cleaning, or anode replacement. Your tankless water heater should last as long, if not longer than a traditional water heater.
You probably need to worry less about how long your water heater will last than you do the company you bought it from. Which brings us to that important question you want to ask.
How long have you been in business and how long have you been making tankless water heaters?
Because tankless heaters are becoming more popular for residential use, there are more and more manufacturers trying to get in on this new piece of business. While no one has a crystal ball that will tell you about a companies future, you can make an educated guess based on their past.
First, how long has the manufacturer of the brand you are considering been in business? Next, find out how long they’ve been manufacturing tankless or instant water heaters. Even if the company has been around for a long time, they may be novices when it comes to tankless water heaters.
If you find they’ve been at this for a long time, you’re going to be pretty safe when expecting them to be around to honor your warranty or supply you with repair parts in the future.
For added peace of mind, check to see if they’ve been providing tankless water heaters for large commercial applications. We can assure you, you don’t win commercial business unless you can prove you’re going to be around for a long time.
The same technology we use in the tankless water heaters we manufacture for commercial applications is found in the products we offer our residential customers. Homeowners get the same high quality that our commercial customers have come to expect, but at an affordable price.
Once you’ve made that decision to go tankless, make sure you’re purchasing your water heater from a company who has a proven track record and one you know will be around to honor your warranty.
